Dutch artist Maite Louisa stimulates your senses and seduces your soul with driving synthpop and wistful lyrics set to seductive melodies.
In 2014, Maite Louisa traded her hometown of The Hague (NL) for the music city of Ghent (BE). With this move, she paused her visual arts practice to immerse herself in her other passion: music. She developed as a singer-songwriter with a focus on lyrics, vocals, and piano, which grew into a full band project. Together with four other musicians, she refined a distinct sound and a strong live performance.
During the pandemic, Maite Louisa retreated to her home studio. The world coming to a halt gave her the space to push her songs toward a more electronic sound. Inspired by artists like FKA Twigs, Sylvan Esso, Joan As Police Woman, and Jamila Woods, she experimented with loops, samples, synthesizers, and beats. This led to new material and a series of releases in the years that followed.
She returned to the stage solo and headed to De Boma Studio (Ghent, BE) to work under the expert guidance of Belgian producer Frederik Segers (STADT, De Beren Gieren) on her debut full-length album. Her background in visual arts merges seamlessly with her music: from thoughtful DIY music videos to hypnotizing visuals during her live set.
On September 25, Maite Louisa releases ‘Hardware’, the second single from her debut album Efforts, which arrives on November 13.
Reviews of the singles can be read on daMusic, Dansendeberen, Luminous Dash and Luistertips
“Her honey-sweet vocals glide over bouncing synths between regret and malice. Who the ‘girl with the blond wig’ is who ran off with her ex remains a mystery. The result is a perfect balance between sing-along pop and a bittersweet aftertaste.” — Dansende Beren
‘(s)Mother’ sounds quite hypnotizing due to the slow beat surrounded by all kinds of swirling sounds. In combination with the dark lyrics, which are largely sung staccato, this is a beautiful first calling card.” — daMusic
Isn’t there still a spot open at Best Kept Secret? – Luistertips
